Blinkist is an online reading application that transforms non-fiction books into short snippets for busy people. It aims to condense the information within these books down into easily-digestible summaries that require no longer than 15 minutes to consume. These key lessons ensure that, while on the move, people are still able to consume vast quantities of information in the shortest time frame.
The company was launched in January 2013 by Holger Seim, Niklas Jansen, Tobias Balling, Sebastian Klein. Their mission was always to ‘make great knowledge engaging, inspiring, and accessible for the modern reader’. The company has its headquarters based in Berlin, Germany and provides its services in both the English and German language. The comprehensive Bitlist app which hosts the online tool is currently available on iOS, Android, Kindle and via the internet.
To date, Blinkist has reported 2,500+ books on its site. The free subscription allows users to digest a pre-selected book each day. For a monthly fee, users are then able to choose their desired book and an unlimited number of them throughout each month. For easy use, the app and website are split into Top lists where users can easily find books on popular topics including Leadership and Mindfulness.
Blinkist focuses its efforts on the busiest people, including commuters. Each book summary produced has been written without the use of an algorithm, ensuring the human touch allows each point to be easily understood. Blinkist editors review all summaries before publishing to ensure they are accurate, well-written and easily digestible – as the brand promises.
